Hacienda Tulum, a new Mexican fine dining steakhouse from longtime friends and restaurateurs Nicolas Geeraerts and Tommy Mitsios, the owners of Tulum Tacos & Tequila, officially opens its doors on the Long Beach boardwalk.
Located at 180 Boardwalk with ocean views and direct beach access, Hacienda Tulum is a year-round restaurant built around the concept of presenting the “flavors of Long Island through a Mexican lens.” The restaurant brings together the depth, tradition, and creativity of Mexican cuisine with premium steaks and seafood, seasonal Long Island ingredients, and the character of its waterfront setting.
For Geeraerts and Mitsios, Hacienda Tulum represents the evolution of the Tulum Tacos & Tequila concept they began on Long Island. What started with a focus on modern Mexican cuisine has grown into a more ambitious dining experience designed to celebrate Mexican culinary traditions while embracing the place the restaurant calls home.
“The Long Beach community is absolutely amazing,” Geeraerts said. “It’s a whole different level than anywhere else. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. For us to be a part of it, I’m super excited.”
Leading Hacienda Tulum’s culinary program is Culinary Director Eduardo Salgado, chef of ’Emat in Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. Salgado has developed a menu that explores the breadth of Mexican cooking through premium steaks, whole fish, ceviches, aguachiles, oysters, composed dishes and complex moles.
The kitchen pairs traditional Mexican ingredients and techniques with seasonal Long Island produce, locally sourced seafood and premium meats, including selections from Pat LaFrieda’s Prime 850 Club. The menu is intended to introduce guests to Mexican flavors and preparations that extend beyond more familiar interpretations of the cuisine.
Signature offerings include Pat LaFrieda sliced rib-eye tacos with an Oaxaca cheese crust, pickled onions and salsa macha, along with chochoyotes, a masa-based preparation served with pistachio, pumpkin seed and cilantro pesto. The raw bar features East and West Coast oysters and other fresh seafood selections.
Hacienda Tulum’s beverage program is similarly rooted in Mexican flavors and ingredients, with an extensive selection of tequila and mezcal alongside wine and specialty cocktails. Cocktails include the Piloncillo Passionfruit Mezcalita and Prickly Pear Champagne Margarita.
The restaurant was designed to complement its Long Beach setting, with indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the ocean, furnishings imported from Mexico and an atmosphere that combines the warmth of a Mexican hacienda with the relaxed character of the waterfront. A private dining room and patio are also available for private events, corporate gatherings, and celebrations. Guests will also have access to an attached parking garage located beneath the restaurant, with private elevator access directly into Hacienda Tulum, as well as valet parking for added convenience.
The Long Beach property offers additional ways to experience the Tulum brand. The boardwalk-facing Tulum Taco Stand provides a casual option for beachgoers, while the forthcoming Cemelle will introduce an intimate 24-seat agave bar within Hacienda Tulum.
Geeraerts brings decades of hospitality experience to the project. After beginning his career at his family’s restaurant in Belgium, he went on to work with prominent chefs and hospitality groups including Patina Group, Jean-Georges, Todd English, Delmonico’s Restaurant Group and JF Restaurants. He later launched Tulum Tacos & Tequila on Long Island, growing the brand from Mineola to Baldwin and now Long Beach. Tulum Tacos & Tequila Expands to Long Beach with Third Location.docx
