Welcome to Restaurant Management*

RMGTmagazine.com's* editor, Ellen Koteff, introduces readers to the inaugural issue of the mobile magazine.

Welcome to the launch of Restaurant Management*, the website committed to serving up business intelligence for full-service restaurateurs on the go.

Our first issue coincides with the annual pilgrimage for U.S. restaurateurs, the National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show at Chicago’s McCormick Place. This inaugural publication features a variety of in-depth reports on topics of vital interest to operators and the foodservice community at large.

The More You Know is a detailed rundown of restaurant regulations that should be front and center for the operator community, while Mixed Report Card for Blacks tackles the topic of African Americans and their collective status in the higher echelons of full-service operations.

For the food and beverage professionals we are offering plenty to chew on. Cabernet Sauvignon: The King of Grapes is a thorough take on the world’s most popular wine and a staple offering in America’s foodservice operations. Be sure to check it out because despite the wine’s unprecedented popularity there is always more to learn for the sake of your businesses.

To find out what creative chefs are whipping up in kitchens from South Carolina to Seattle, be sure not to miss, Italian Pasta Dishes Welcome The World.

Also this month, as befitting our theme, we are getting up close and personal with Dawn Sweeney, the chief executive of the NRA. Amanda Baltazar, our managing editor, takes a look at the woman who has had a herculean job on her hands since taking the reins of the industry’s most visible organization at the outset of the great recession in late 2007.

Aside from these provocative features Restaurant Management is bringing you a smorgasbord of the latest headlines that affect your businesses, and an exciting mixture of departments that you won’t find anywhere else. We are committed to bringing you the very best coverage that many of you have come to expect from our sister publication, QSR.

As operators who have survived the last couple of years, despite one of the most debilitating economies in several generations, RMGTmagazine.com is premiering at a time of renewed optimism, and no one knows that better than you.

In the NRA’s recently published Restaurant Performance Index the outlook gained strength in March as same-store sales and customer traffic levels continued to improve in our nation’s restaurants. The monthly composite, which tracks the health of the industry, stood at 101 in March, up .3% from February and the third gain in the last four months. It also represents the first time that the Current Situation component, which signifies expansion, came in over 100 for 43 months.

What a rallying cry for NRA Show 2011, which is scheduled for May 21-24 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

I’ll see you on the show floor, but in the meantime settle back and check out RMGTmagazine.com. The journey is just beginning for us, and we hope you will come along for the ride.

*Restaurant Management (Rmgt) was the precursor to FSR magazine.
