The security partner relied on by thousands of restaurants.

Asset protection is complex, and Denny’s, where many locations are open 24/7, knows this better than most. With more than 1,600 restaurants, ensuring security and operational excellence across all units is a massive undertaking. Aaron Hancart, the senior director of asset protection and safety for Denny’s, has more than 18 years of experience in asset protection across multiple aspects of the industry.

When Hancart came on board, he was faced with many challenges as he built the security and loss prevention department. “While asset protection existed, it was maintained at a base level; with the addition of my role to the organization, we were ready to take it to new heights,” Hancart says. The one software he was thrilled to find Denny’s already had was Envysion.

“Envysion was brought on before my arrival, which was a blessing,” Hancart says. “Envysion had a good partnership with Denny’s for a couple of years, and I’ve long known about their software and services. I was thrilled they were our partner.” Since Hancart’s start, Envysion has collaborated with him to determine how they could assist in building a robust asset and safety department for Denny’s.

Envysion’s team of restaurant industry experts brought Hancart’s vision to fruition by updating analog cameras, analyzing blueprints, and strategically placing cameras, ultimately enhancing the goal of overall safety and security. As the partnership progressed, it was quickly realized there was a strong overlap with the operational excellence team. According to Hancart, Envysion is key to our future success. As an organization, we can look through a different lens with an operational focus. This enhanced Denny’s ability to review and streamline additional complexities for units across the country, plus answer valuable questions for the operations team.

Questions like how long tables sit empty before being bussed, how long dwell times are, and how long customers wait for curbside pickup can seem impossible to measure. Fortunately, with strategic camera placement and the correct technology integrations all of those can be viewed in terms of profitability and efficiency. “We can start tracking all these various operational components and showing operators over 365 days how it’s affecting not only labor cost but profitability,” Hancart says.

We are able to think strategically and find solutions for both simple and complex issues. For example, how can we make sure there is a connection between our cameras and temperature control, so that if a freezer goes down, we’re notified about it immediately? Hancart asks as an example. “It’s about connecting all these different smart features of the restaurant and using the cameras as the binding force.”

While Envysion has best-of-breed security systems and technology, Hancart points out Envysion’s customer service and culture of partnership, along with its continued innovation, make it stand out against competitors. “We have a close working relationship, with constant communication and support,” Hancart says. “They’re always seeking feedback and improving their products and services.”

“Envysion’s effort is second to none,” Hancart says. “They have even come out to a location and helped with major project designs and implementations.” With Envysion’s support, Hancart has begun building a robust asset protection and safety department at Denny’s, ensuring security and operational efficiency across the chain’s extensive network. The strategic use of Envysion’s technology has empowered Denny’s to address safety concerns proactively while enhancing overall profitability through improved operational insights.
