Earlier in December Grubhub released its annual report on consumer eating habits, backed by the analysis of millions of orders.
The study found that sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches were the top breakfast order among customers, followed by doughnuts, sausage burritos, bagel with cream cheese, and muffins. Denver ranked No. 1 in "early bird" orders (5 a.m. to 8 a.m.), topping New York City. Burritos proved to be the most popular lunch order and chicken quesadillas ruled the late-night daypart (10 p.m. and later).
As for beverages, the top alcohol orders were beer, margarita, hot sake, piña colada, and white wine, and the best coffee orders were iced, hot, iced caramel, iced French vanilla, and frozen. In terms of alternatives, oat milk came out on top; in fact, guests preferred it 4:1 over second-place almond milk.
Grubhub gleaned these details by looking at orders from January to November, versus the same time last year. The following list is what it found to be the top 10 menu items overall. No. 1 on the list jumped from No. 8 last year, and was ordered more than 4 million times.
