Viableware announced that PayPal payments will be accepted on the RAIL payment platform, a mobile payment device that enables full-service restaurants to securely accept various forms of payment at the table.  The integration expands PayPal’s presence in the dining vertical and will enable the payment service on all RAIL devices expected to be implemented by more than 20 of the nation’s most recognizable full-service restaurant brands within the next year.  Dickie Brennan’s latest New Orleans restaurant, Tableau, will be the first live implementation of the combined payment technologies.

Viableware’s RAIL is a handheld device designed to replicate the look and feel of the traditional bill presentation folder used at most full-service restaurants – but unlike the original, the RAIL allows guests to securely self-swipe credit or debit cards, auto-calculate the tip, split the bill multiple ways, pay-by-item, and direct-email receipts.  It also hosts a number of other functional apps that can be used by full service restaurants to provide better service or improve the customer experience.  The RAIL payment platform seamlessly integrates with leading restaurant POS systems from MICROS, NCR Aloha, and Dinerware and has been certified to the security standards of 11 of the leading payment processors.

“At PayPal, we are always looking for new ways to create a seamless experience for both our consumers and merchants,” says Don Kingsborough, PayPal vice president of Retail. “Collaborating with an innovator such as Viableware allows us to bring added convenience to the more than 400,000 full service restaurants in the United States, providing these restaurants with new payment options and, in turn, their customers increased choice and flexibility.”

Tableau is a three-story restaurant in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter with seating for 325 guests.  The restaurant is one of several establishments owned and operated by Dickie Brennan & Co. including Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, Palace Café, and Bourbon House.

“We’re thrilled to be the first to debut this payment technology for our guests,” says Dickie Brennan, founder of Dickie Brennan & Co. and board member of the National Restaurant Association.  “By implementing the RAIL devices, we can present our guests the option to use modern payment methods like PayPal – in addition to cash, credit or debit card transactions – and establish a new standard for customer service.”

“This relationship will enable full-service restaurants across the country to offer PayPal as a foremost payment option simply by introducing the RAIL platform as part of their day-to-day operations,” says Joe Snell, CEO of Viableware.  “We look forward to working closely with PayPal over the coming months to help broaden adoption of the service among full-service restaurant operators everywhere.”
