El Conquistador Resort Announces New Executive Culinary Team


El Conquistador Resort & Las Casitas Village, A Waldorf Astoria Resort names Al Amengual as director of Food & Beverage and Donovan Campbell as executive chef, effective immediately. Amengual and Campbell head the luxury resort’s 23 dining outlets, including its signature restaurant, Chops Steakhouse.

 “We’re excited to welcome both Al and Chef Donovan to El Conquistador Resort & Las Casitas Village,” says Dermot Connolly, managing director. “We look forward to them bringing their extensive experience in luxury resorts and great talents of culinary excellence and creativity to raise the bar on the culinary experience for our guests.”

With over 24 years in Food & Beverage Management, Al Amengual spent the last eight years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts most recently as Director of Food & Beverage at W Resort and Spa Vieques (Puerto Rico). Prior to his time with Starwood, Amengual held the same position at several five star resorts in the US and Caribbean, including Naples Grande (Florida), Hyatt Dorado Beach Golf Resort (Puerto Rico) and Casa Marina (Florida Keys). He graduated from the Conrad Hilton School of Hotel Management at the University of Houston.

Donovan Campbell joins El Conquistador Resort & Las Casitas Village from Celebrity Cruises where he was Executive Chef aboard the Celebrity Equinox. A seasoned and accomplished chef with over 26 years professional cooking experience, he’s spent time as Executive Chef in some of the top culinary resorts in Las Vegas, including the renowned Wynn and Bellagio resorts. He was nominated for Restaurateur of the Year (National Restaurant Association) and recognized as One of the Top 15 African-American Chefs in the Country (Ebony).
