Taverna Agora Greek Restaurant & Bar will open to the public today at 11 a.m. for lunch in its new downtown location at 326 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a relocation for Taverna Agora, which opened nearly 12 years ago on Glenwood Avenue.
Lou Moshakos, founder of LM Restaurants Inc., the hospitality company that manages Taverna Agora, says the decision to relocate to downtown Raleigh was easy. “Our Glenwood lease was expiring and I was looking for other locations. When 326 Hillsborough Street was presented to me, I knew we had to take it. This area of downtown Raleigh is up and coming and we want to be a part of that growth and excitement in the community.”
The new space has two stories, with a cozy dining room and private event space that will seat up to 35 people downstairs, and an open-air patio and bar upstairs. The restaurant will also have new hours, as it will be open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as for Sunday brunch starting at 10 a.m. Because of the new hours, the menu has expanded to include lunch and brunch items, but guests will still be able to find the majority of their old favorites including the Village Salad, flaming Saganaki, Lamb Shank, Mousaka, and Stuffed Pork Chops.
Monday will also kick off a week of fundraising, as Taverna Agora will donate 10 percent of its seven days of food sales to the Alexander Family YMCA and their diabetes prevention program, Energize! Energize!, which is a 12-week community education and lifestyle change program for children diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes or pre-diabetes. Education topics include nutrition, fitness, and behavior change.
Taverna Agora, established in 2003, is a Greek kitchen and bar serving authentic, homemade Greek cuisine, unique wines, beers, and handcrafted cocktails.
