The James Beard Foundation welcomed Randall Goldman, CEO of Patrick Properties Hospitality Group, onto its National Advisory Board. The first representative from Charleston, South Carolina, Goldman joins the ranks of over 20 distinguished culinary professionals including Dickie Brennan, Dorothy Cann Hamilton, Thomas Keller, Michel Nischan, and Wolfgang Puck. Selected by JBF President Susan Ungaro and board chair Emily Luchetti, the National Advisory Board is comprised of industry leaders who regularly lend their culinary expertise and knowledge to the Foundation in a variety of meaningful ways.
“Throughout my involvement with the Beard Foundation, I have seen first-hand the impact of its leadership in championing the culinary community through education and advocacy,” Goldman says. “I am honored to have been invited to join the Foundation’s National Advisory Board and take a more active role in supporting its efforts.”
As CEO and co-founder of Patrick Properties Hospitality Group, Goldman has lovingly restored Downtown Charleston’s most historic properties for more than two decades, shaping distressed heirlooms into national monuments of preservation and exquisite backdrops to the destination’s premier events, including more than 500 weddings each year. The meticulous transformation of the American Theater, Fish Restaurant, Lowndes Grove Plantation, and William Aiken House has proven instrumental in revitalizing a wave of new business and development, while Goldman’s commitment to the local culinary industry has helped elevate Charleston as a premier food and travel destination.
“From hosting the James Beard Awards nominee announcement in Charleston in 2013 to generously donating some of our most popular auction packages to date, Randall is a long-time supporter and friend of the Foundation,” Ungaro says. “We are grateful for the opportunity to tap into his wealth of knowledge and expertise as part of our National Advisory Board, and assist us in furthering the Foundation’s mission to celebrate, nurture, and preserve America’s diverse culinary heritage and future.”
In addition to his role with the JBF National Advisory Board, Goldman’s pedigree boasts a long list of civic involvement and charitable outreach. He currently serves as chair of the Board of Directors for Charleston Wine + Food Festival, immediate past chair of the Hospitality & Tourism Management School at the College of Charleston and sits on the board of directors for the South Carolina Aquarium. A champion for Charleston’s farmers and local fishermen, Goldman’s advocacy for sustainable seafood has garnered recognition from Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, in which Fish is distinguished as the singular restaurant partner in the state of South Carolina.
