From Sunday, April 17 to Tuesday, April 19, Royal/T—Culver City’s eclectic art space and Japanese maid café—will host the next installment of David Haskell and chef Joseph Mahon’s nomadic “Magnum” culinary pop-up series for three evenings of inspired gastronomy and innovative wine, beer, and sake pairings.

Combining Mahon’s French culinary prowess—honed by his time at Bastide and Sona in Los Angeles, and training under Daniel Boulud and David Bouley in New York—and Haskell’s celebrated sommelier skills from stints at Le Cirque, Aquavit, and BIN 8945, the Magnum crew’s free-spirited culinary concept will be unleashed in the 10,000-square-foot space.

Royal/T and Magnum will donate a portion of the event and silent auction proceeds to benefit a chosen restaurant or sake brewery in northern Japan.

The pop-up restaurant offers a five ($62), seven ($80), or ten-course menu ($118) with optional wine pairings ($45-$92). The events will pair Mahon’s French cuisine with Haskell’s sake, Asian beer, and French and Italian wine selections (with a special menu on Tuesday, April 19 in celebration of Haskell’s 35th birthday). The pairings will be announced the day of each event via Magnum and Royal/T’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Dishes will include:

  • Fennel royale with sea urchin, apple cloud, and nori powder;
  • Braised baby octopus with leek risotto, pine nuts, and pancetta vinaigrette;
  • Miso-cured hangar steak with creamed spinach, shitake mushroom tempura, sesame seeds, and ponzu sauce.
