A diner wants to eat out but doesn’t know where. Should he decide based on type of cuisine? Neighborhood? Pick a hot spot?

Now consumers have the ability to choose a restaurant depending on who’s offering a special deal.

A new website, BiteHunter.com, is described as the Kayak.com of dining. The website is “a real-time search engine for dining deals,” says Gil Harel, co-founder and CEO of the site.

BiteHunter aggregates special deals from restaurants—from Twitter, Facebook, and restaurant newsletters, as well as third-party sites such as OpenTable, CitySearch, Restaurant.com, Groupon and Living Social. It then analyzes the information and puts it all in one place—BiteHunter.com—for consumers to use.

But if being with the crowd is the most important thing for a diner, they can use BiteHunter for that, too. The site consolidates information from Facebook and Foursquare, both from consumers clicking the ‘Like’ button and for check-ins in the past 24 hours.

So far the site offers consumers the ability to search for restaurants by the special dining deals offered in New York, San Francisco and Chicago, but it’s expanding fast. Los Angeles will be next, followed by Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

“We keep improving the technology and we are improving the ability to analyze the information in real time,” explains Harel. “In the next year we’ll be in the 10 major cities in the US.”

BiteHunter was launched in beta mode in October but is fully functional . A mobile version should be available in a few weeks.

Diners can do a general search or look under Latest Deals & Offers; Daily Deal; Happy Hour; Events (such as special prix fixe meals, singles dinners and winemaker meals) and Social Buzz (for the Facebook and FourSquare check ins).

The site will make money by getting a cut from sites such as Groupon, Restaurant.com or OpenTable. There will also be advertising on the site.
