New restaurant Butchertown Grocery from chef Bobby Benjamin will open this fall in Louisville, Kentucky. Drawing cues from the century-old building’s former life as a grocery store, the historic space in the heart of the happening Butchertown neighborhood will feature a chef’s bar and refined casual dining downstairs with a late night cocktail lounge featuring live performance stage with a charcuterie kitchen upstairs. Lunch, dinner, and late night menus will span Benjamin’s career from childhood to present, including inspiration from mentors Sean Brock and Todd Richards; executive chef positions at Louisville’s Oakroom at the Seelbach Hotel and La Coop: Bistro a Vins; and adventures in Nashville with Union Common, Flyte World Dining, and The Capitol Grille.

“We want Butchertown Grocery to be Louisville’s living room—a gathering place to enjoy an authentic taste of the Derby City whether it’s a business lunch, multi-course meal, late night snack, superbly-crafted cocktail, or anything in between,” says Benjamin. “It’s a performance space for all the senses, a complete cultural experience in one building.”

Market-driven produce, fresh pasta, artisanal cheeses, and charcuterie will reflect Butchertown’s heritage as Louisville’s original artisan food hub and home to a diverse population of European immigrants and summer vacationers from downriver New Orleans. A chef’s bar and bounty of seasonal vegetables will emphasize the freshness of Benjamin’s carefully selected ingredients and reflect his passion for simple, well-prepared food. House-made gnocchi, gourmet beignets, and boozy milkshakes bring nostalgic throwbacks to Butchertown Grocery’s diverse menu. For a more intimate night out, guests can head upstairs for artful cocktails and late night entertainment.

“Butchertown has its own distinct and dynamic vibe. A community of artists and artisans, tech start-ups, and urban adventurers,” Benjamin says. “We’re proud of our identity and hope that Butchertown Grocery will be a tribute to this neighborhood’s unique history and culture.”
