Share changes between alcohol beverage categories: Spirits’ share of alcohol gains continued (0.8 share points during the four weeks), but fell slightly from the 52-week trend (1 share points). Beer lost 1.1 share points during the four-week period, while Wine gained 0.2 share points.
Total Alcohol: Total alcohol units were down 4.6 percent y/y during the four weeks, improving from the 5.4 percent decline in the prior period, but still lagging the 12-week (-3.7 percent) and 52-week (-3.1 percent) trends.
Beer units were down 6.8 percent y/y during the period, bringing the YTD trend to -5.5 percent.
Beer Segments: Craft unit share gains slowed to +0.3 points during the four weeks (below the 52 week value of +0.6 points); Premium Lights continued share losses (-0.6 points, improving from -0.9 points over the latest 52 weeks); Imports gained 0.1 points; Premium Plus continued to gain share (0.2 points); Cider lost 0.1 share points.
Overall Spirits: Spirits units declined 2.6 percent y/y during the period, down -1.2 percent YTD.
Spirits Categories: Vodka share gains slowed from +1 points (12-week) to +0.7 points (four week); Tequila gained 0.6 points; Irish share gains increased from 0.4 points (12 week) to 0.6 points (four week); Gin and Brandy/Cognac both gained 0.1 points. Bourbon/Blends lost 1.2 share points; Rum and Cordials both lost 0.4 points; Scotch lost 0.1 share points.
Overall Wine: Wine volumes fell 3 percent y/y during the latest four weeks, down 2.6 percent since the beginning of the year.
Wine Varietals: The top share-gaining varietals over the latest 52 weeks were Sauvignon Blanc, Prosecco, and Cabernet Sauvignon; while the top share donors were Merlot, Riesling, and Chardonnay.
