S&D Coffee & Tea, the largest coffee and tea manufacturer and supplier to restaurants and convenience stores in America, entered its film, “Restoration Fashion,” in the 100 Words Film Festival, held at Uptown Charlotte’s McGlohon Theater on November 4 and 5.
Part of the festival’s documentary category, the film highlights S&D’s partnership with CLIMB, Inc., a Charlotte-area ministry resource organization that is committed to advocating, promoting education and training those who are in need of opportunity and sustainability.
CLIMB’s Sackcloth & Ashes program repurposes burlap coffee sacks—which S&D provides free of charge to create unique, handmade products such as messenger bags, purses and gift bags. All of the products are sewn in the Charlotte area, which provides needed jobs, and the profits go toward training individuals to give them the skills they need to make a living.
“When you begin with a dream and a vision of what you want to do, you never really know who all the players are going to be by the time it comes to fruition; we didn’t know that S&D would play ‘the role’ in making this all work,” says Chip Furr, president and founder of CLIMB. “In the simplest terms, the partnership with S&D means everything to us, and because of them, we were able to roll out our products to the public, which launched the night of the film festival.”
Started in 2014, the 100 Words Film Festival celebrates concise, cinematic storytelling. Each film must deliver a compelling tale using exactly 100 words, challenging filmmakers to focus on the essence of the story.
