Giorgios Bakatsias – North Carolina’s most prolific restaurateur and James Beard Foundation nominee for “Outstanding Restauranteur” – will open Krill in downtown East Durham this Fall. “We’re bringing the food and culture of Southeast Asia and its coastal regions to life in a very funky and playful ‘Far East funk’ sort of way,” explains Bakatsias.

Krill, the 2400 square foot space will provide the same transporting & theatrical setting that is signature to all Giorgios Group restaurants – from the lemongrass and bamboo garden outside to the view of the bustling kitchen from the bar, and the convivial dining room featuring giant lanterns overhead. Krill’s menu will serve familiar Asian dishes, uniquely adapted for Krill with funky twists such as Fried Whole Fish with Green Papaya Salad with Green Mango, Duck Soup Dumplings with Foie Gras, Peanut Crusted Calamari and Uni Fried Rice, alongside fresh cocktails using Asian flavors and an approachable sake and wine program.

“This area of downtown is going to continue to become a real destination for Durham. We’re excited be part of that energy, near our friends at Ponysaurus,” says Bakatsias about Krill’s location at 506 Ramsuer Street (near the Smashing Boxes software company), will boasts private parking. Krill will offer seating for 50 indoors, 50 outdoors in the covered bamboo garden, and 20 at the lively bar. Krill will also offer take-out of their full menu upon opening. Stay tuned for the chef announcement, full menu and opening date!
