INNOVA's new proprietary salt reduction technology has been created to stimulate taste receptors on the tongue to create the perception of salt without the need for high sodium addition. The new product, SaltSavor is effective in a variety of applications that require 25-50% salt reduction. The company claims the product can be used in gravies, sauces, marinades, soups, glazes, processed meat products, snacks, side dishes, breadings, batters and an array of prepared meals offerings. Companies using SaltSavor can help them achieve a "low sodium" or "reduced sodium" labeling. INNOVA claims that this technology also meets food processors' need for natural, clean-label flavorings.

SaltSavor may directly addresses consumers' preference trend for health-conscious foods. Today's consumers want all the taste-enhancing benefits of salt, without the inherent health risks of sodium.

"SaltSavor represents a revolutionary step in a reduced sodium offering for prepared food processors, seasoning houses and other food manufacturers," said Dafne Diez de Medina, PhD. Vice President R&D, INNOVA. "This shelf-stable flavor enhancer maintains its quality and impact through retort, freezer, fryer and dusting usage."

INNOVA claims that SaltSavor is a cost effective ingredient that can add as little as 1 to 2 cents per pound to the finished product, delivering sodium reduction as well as flavor enhancement.
