Chef Javier Bardauil and co-owner Ignacio Gerson announce the grand opening of Detroit’s first and only authentic Argentinian-inspired restaurant, BARDA. Located in Core City, which neighbors Woodbridge and Corktown, the modern South American restaurant concept brings a bold approach to Argentinian dishes with traditional open fire grilling and premium ingredients either sourced locally, or imported from Argentina.

Using ancestral methods of Patagonian cooking, BARDA’s open fire is the very soul of the restaurant’s dining experience. Behind the Food Bar is an assortment of grills with varying flame intensities that are used for every dish.

Chef Javier Bardauil, an alumnus of Francis Mallmann’s renowned Patagonia Sur, draws inspiration from Argentina’s diverse culinary heritage. Joined by Allenby former Chef Michael Goldberg in the kitchen. Chef Bardauil combines his traditional European training with ancient South American flavors to present an eclectic and exciting menu.

“The moment we experienced Detroit’s energy and appreciation for innovative ventures, we knew it was the ideal location for our restaurant concept. We are excited to bring a dining experience that’s a first of its kind,” BARDA owners explains.

BARDA specializes in simple yet bold dishes, combining techniques and ingredients that reach far across vast geographical terrains. Signatures include Glazed Beets with ajoblanco and raspberries; Chorizo Argentino with fennel and lemon; Tira de Asado, tender short rib with pepper-coriander crust and Carne Y Hueso, with bone marrow, beef tartare and horseradish served with toast.

“Through our unique, no gas open-fire kitchen, we hope to showcase our modern take on an ancient style of cooking to the Detroit community and beyond.”

Alongside the artfully crafted dinner menu, BARDA offers an expansive beverage program spearheaded by the highly acclaimed bartenders Roger James Fruin and Robert Wilson. The menu features an exclusive selection of carefully studied Argentinian wines, South American-inspired libations, and local craft beers. Fernet, arguably the most beloved spirit in Argentina, is the heart of many house cocktails. The rich and spice-forward spirit is featured in BARDA’s signature drinks such as the Smoke & Fire, made with Mezcal, Averna, China China, Branca Menta and Fuego Tincture.

Located inside a renovated historic radiator shop, the modern 113-seat interior features a long, sunken bar in the center, and intimate booths and tables line the walls. The ever-glowing embers from the open fire create a warm, intimate atmosphere, with carefully curated playlists contributing a natural buzz. BARDA will utilize the large adjacent park for a spacious 40-seat patio and bonfire.

BARDA is located at 4842 Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48208 with 113 seating capacity.
