US Foods announced its second acquisition of a regional foodservice distributor within three months. The $22 billion national distributor has agreed to acquire the assets of Cara Donna Provision Co., a wholesale distributor of food and food-related products to restaurants and foodservice customers throughout New England.

Family-owned for three generations, Cara Donna serves approximately 1,300 customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, and Connecticut.

The Cara Donna location in Braintree, Massachusetts, will remain open through the summer to ensure a smooth transition, after which the business will shift to the US Foods locations in Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Norwich, Connecticut.

“We see many similarities between US Foods and Cara Donna, most important of which is the hunger for bringing value to its customers,” said Joe Cara Donna III, executive vice president, Cara Donna. “With the size and scale of the company, our customers will now have access to additional products and business solutions.”

The transaction is expected to close on March 4.

In related news, US Foods announced in December that it would acquire Dierks Waukesha in Waukesha, Wisconsin, an acquisition that would substantially strengthen its presence in the Upper Midwest.

Family owned for three generations, Dierks Waukesha serves more than 3,500 customers throughout Wisconsin, Northern Illinois, Upper Michigan, and Eastern Minnesota from fine dining restaurants and caterers to schools and institutional organizations. With approximately $120 million in annual sales, Dierks is one of the leading independent foodservice distributors in the region.

US Foods will service customers throughout the region from both its distribution center in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and the Dierks distribution center in Waukesha. Employees of Dierks will be joining US Foods and will continue servicing customers throughout the area.
