Monday night’s James Beard Awards at the Lyric Opera of Chicago turned out to be a coronation for the city of Philadelphia.
After four previous finalist finishes, Stephen Starr took home the Outstanding Restaurateur award. Zahav’s Michael Solomonov was named Outstanding Chef and Greg Vernick, of Vernick Food & Drink in Philadelphia, took home Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic honors on his third try. Solomonov, who won the Mid-Atlantic award in 2011, was the city’s most recent victor.

Starr’s New York restaurant Le Coucou, a partnership with Chef Daniel Rose, earned Best New Restaurant.
