Oregon Fruit Products LLC is continuing to create products that support its craft brewing clientele. The company  announced a new blood orange purée that contributes sweet notes reminiscent of navel oranges, but also a tinge of bitterness and acidity that marries very well with hops. The velvet-smooth, red-orange colored purée consists of 100 percent blood orange juice and pulp, with no added sugar, preservatives or additives.

Oregon Fruit originally created the purée at the request of The Rare Barrel, a highly decorated all-sour beer company in Berkeley, California.

“We have been using Oregon Fruit’s raspberry puree with great success in our beer called Ensorcelled,” says Jay Goodwin, director of blending and brewing at The Rare Barrel. “As an exclusively sour beer maker, we are always on the hunt for fruit that can add new flavor dimensions. When Oregon Fruit asked what fruit we wanted to try next, we agreed that blood orange seemed like it would really compliment the tart notes in our beers. We look forward to using the blood orange in one of our next releases.”

“The recent grapefruit release and now the blood orange puree are both achievements of our very talented product development team,” says Chris Sarles, CEO of Oregon Fruit Products. “We are proud to be able to develop custom flavors for brewers like The Rare Barrel, and look forward to working with more craft brewers as these flavors go into full-scale production.”

All of Oregon Fruit Products’ purées are aseptic, meaning they are flash-heated at ultra-high temperatures for a very short time to minimize microbes in the fruit puree. The product is cooled quickly to maintain the best fresh fruit flavor and color. The entire process is closed, with the package filled and capped in a sealed environment, without letting any contamination enter the system. The majority of Oregon Specialty Fruit purees have a shelf life of 18 months in ambient temperature.

Oregon Fruit Products’ blood orange puree is now available in 42-pound bag-in-box, 425-pound [55 gallon] drums, and 2,300-pound totes. The product is certified kosher, made in the U.S., non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegetarian. Oregon Fruit Products does not use, nor does it allow, any of the eight major allergens [milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat] in the products or processing areas.
