Sandwiches, by nature, boast the flexibility to span a multitude of cuisines and segments, and continue to be a popular mealtime option across all day-parts.

Over the past two years, a growing number of consumers have placed a higher emphasis on bread quality and variation, seeking healthy options that allow for customization. To help operators answer to this mounting trend, Rich’sintroduced three new flatbread options to their already extensive line of sandwich carriers.

Rich’s new, globally inspired flatbreads, Naan, Lavash, and Pita, serve as an opportunity to bring versatility and artisanal quality to any menu. Smaller than traditional sandwiches and naturally low in sodium with zero trans-fat, these flatbreads allow portion control and offer consumers a healthier option.

“Recent studies show, customers will pay more for unique items made with healthy, quality ingredients, which comes as no surprise,” says Donna Reeves-Collins, director of marketing, foodservice division at Rich’s. “Our Flatbreads, among other sandwich carriers, give operators the ability to customize and diversify menu options, while maximizing profitability.”

The Naan, made with ghee and buttermilk, comes in a unique teardrop shape, delivering an authentic look and flavor. Rich’s Lavash, while pliable at room temperature, takes on a crisp, crackery texture when heated and is made using only seven ingredients, including olive oil and sea salt.

The Pita comes in several varietals including white, wheat, pocketed, or flat and boasts a versatility that can be featured from appetizers and entrées to pizza and desserts.

Flatbreads have grown significantly in popularity between 2010 and 2014. Naan menu incidence increased by 16 percent, most notably in the midscale segment. Lavash has increased by 10 percent, primarily in the fine dining sector.

With more patrons craving sandwich versatility, operators must capture the attention and appetites with better carriers, in addition to adventurous flavors. Rich’s wide portfolio of breads, rolls, and artisan specialties are easy to prepare and available in proof-and-bake, par-baked and fully-baked options, as well as gluten-free.

From Panini breads, subs and rolls, to buns, flatbreads and biscuits, Rich’s line of sandwich carriers boasts amazing flavor and texture. Their team of culinary experts is always on-hand to provide operators with working knowledge on the most innovative ways to incorporate their products into original menu items.
