The Hass Avocado Board (HAB) has announced two producers and two importers have been seated to HAB’s executive committee for the 2022 board year following an election by the twelve-member board of directors.

The 2022 HAB executive committee members are:

  • Producer Salvador Dominguez from Santa Paula, California as Chairperson
  • Producer Ben Van Der Kar of Carpinteria, California as Vice Chairperson
  • Importer Sergio Chavez as Secretary
  • Importer Aaron Acosta as Treasurer

“Having served on the committee in 2021 as Vice Chairperson, I’m pleased to serve as Chairperson for the upcoming board year,” says newly seated HAB Chairperson Salvador Dominguez. “As the only independent avocado organization, HAB is dedicated to equipping the entire industry for success and we look forward to bringing people together from all corners of the industry.”

There are four meetings of the Board each year, in which industry leaders make decisions on HAB policy and direction. Unique to HAB, board meetings have international representation and conversation around key topics facing the entire industry. The industry can count on HAB to be a catalyst for action and a reason to be confident, working collectively toward orderly growth that benefits everyone while remaining transparent in all operations, forward-thinking in all decisions, and collaborative in all activities.

In recognition of Scott Bauwens, Gahl Crane, Dave Fausset, Paul Romero, Keith Slattery and Charley Wolk who will not return following their service in 2021, Dominguez commented, “We greatly appreciate the tireless support and the personal and professional contributions these individuals have made to further HAB’s goal of making avocados America’s most popular fruit.”

Members of the industry are encouraged to join a board meeting and learn how HAB works for the benefit of the industry
