Nobu Hospitality, the globally established lifestyle brand founded by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, announced the highly anticipated completion of Nobu Hotel Chicago (155 N. Peoria Street). On October 1, Nobu Hotel Chicago will unveil its signature restaurant, suites, meeting spaces, tranquility pool and fitness facility.
Designed by Modif Architecture in collaboration with Studio K, Nobu Hotel Chicago features 115 guest rooms and suites in a style that flawlessly blends Japanese minimalism with West Loop urbanity. Nobu Hotel Chicago marks the third project in collaboration with ownership group RCD Hotels and follows the opening of the Miami and Los Cabos properties.
Nobu Restaurant
Open seven days a week, Nobu (854 W. Randolph St) features alounge, dining room, 28-foot sushi bar and two private dining rooms. The stunning 10,000-square-foot namesake restaurant is the perfect place to savor signature dishes like BlackCod with Miso, Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi and an array of world-renowned sushi. Nobu Chicago will also feature select dishes, such as Crispy Shiitake Salad Goma Dressing, Kampachi BasilRocoto Soy, Tai Sweet Shiso and Prime Tenderloin Miso Ponzu.
Upon entering the restaurant from Chicago’s bustling “Restaurant Row,” guests are greeted by towering columns featuring undulating half-moons above patinated copper bases that quickly come to resemble two-story ancient samurai swords. A natural stone host stand sits in front of a full height wooden slat backdrop. A color base of wet sands is complemented by rich greens, copper and black. Flooring is an end-grain, black wood tile and the walls are coated in sand-colored plaster installed to resemble unfolded, creased origami paper. Designed by Studio K’s Karen Herold, an installation of resin leaves painstakingly fabricated by hand in Chicago looks like a forest canopy. The sculpture throws organic shadows, reminiscent of leaves falling in autumn, onto the plastered walls, adding a natural contrast to the ultra-modern furniture. Meanwhile, high ceilings and low lying furniture play with scale and proportion to accentuate a soaring feeling in the space.
Inspired by a jewelry box, the stone sushi bar is tucked under the mezzanine. The room’s comparatively low nine-foot ceilings are formed by interlocking wood slats, which also extend upward to create a private dining room on the second floor.
Around the corner, stacked green roof tiles line the main wall leading to the mezzanine. A pre-function space perfect for small gatherings features high top seating, an enviable perch to overlook the energetic restaurant below. Nearby, the two private dining rooms feature carved sliding screens that cleverly mask state of the art audio visual equipment. Each room boasts its own ensuite restroom for added privacy.
With the opening of the restaurant and change of seasons, The Rooftop at Nobu Hotel Chicago will transition to a lounge atmosphere where reservations no longer will be required. Instead The Rooftop will accept walk-ins and provide priority seating to guests of the hotel. The Rooftop will be open Sunday to Thursday from 4 to 10 pm and Friday to Saturday from 4 to 11 pm. Breakfast will also be available on The Rooftop from 8 to 11 am daily for hotel guests only.
Nobu is open for dinner Sunday to Thursday from 5 to 10 pm and Friday to Saturday from 5 to 11 pm. The restaurant is also open for lunch Friday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Next summer, the restaurant will also feature a 100-seat patio directly on Randolph Street.
23 Exceptional Suites
23 hotel suites immerse guests in tranquil luxury. The Nobu Villa is unlike any other suite in Chicago. With its 14-foot-high ceiling, elegantly crafted built-in millwork, indigo accents and floor-to-ceiling city views, it is the ideal entertaining space to host friends and family for private dinners for up to 10 guests. Spacious dining and living areas boast a lounge with a signature pool table and a separate guest bathroom. The Sake Suite is an oasis of warmth and sophistication with separate spaces for sleeping and entertaining, including a private dining room with a wet bar and a lounge area. Mango wood millwork, sisal and wool rugs and natural materials complement the modern Japanese aesthetic. Like all suites, the Zen Deluxe Suite offers a sensory experience with its very own teak soaking tub.
Other room highlights include: Natura Bissé bath amenities, traditional Japanese tea service, the exclusive Nobu bed, and Dyson Supersonic Hairdryers.
Meetings at Nobu Hotel Chicago
In addition to the restaurant and private dining rooms, the hotel offers 3,398 square feet of stylishly flexible space for corporate and social gatherings. Bathed in natural light, the 10th-floor ballroom totals 2,088 square feet and can host up to 160 reception-style. A 1,310-square-foot private dining room on the mezzanine of Nobu Chicago offers flexible seating and includes a pre-function space of 680 square feet. Premier views of downtown Chicago and the West Loop, gracious service and spectacular cuisine combine for memorable, flawlessly executed events.
Tranquility Pool and Fitness Facility
The 40-foot indoor tranquility pool at Nobu Hotel Chicago is one of only a few indoor hotel pools in the city. It is a idyllic expression in relaxation. Within this zen-like refuge, a sculpture of pink cherry blossoms adds a moment of calm repose for the eyes. The pool joins a state-of-the-art fitness center that features Technogym and functional trainer equipment and private locker facilities. Locker rooms feature steam rooms and an assortment of essential oils to assist with post-workout relaxation. Yoga mats in every guest room provide another option for relaxation in private.
