Sonny’s guests can enjoy a complimentary sweet tea all day, at all 100 locations spanning eight states, on Iced Tea Day (June 10).

The recipe for Sonny’s DIY Raspberry Peach Sweet Tea Sangria (this drink is not served at Sonny’s), created by Pitmaster Beth Kanupp is below:

Ingredients:

  • Raspberries
  • Peaches
  • 4 cups Sonny’s Sweet Tea
  • ½ cup Peach Schnapps
  • 1 bottle White wine

Directions:

Combine on all liquid ingredients and stir well. Pour liquid into preferred glass. Add in four raspberries and use sliced peaches to garnish.

The first sweet iced tea recipe was published in an 1879 community cookbook called “Housekeeping in Old Virginia” by Marion Cabell Tyree. Tyree’s recipe still called for green tea, and it wasn’t until 1884 that iced tea using black tea leaves made its debut.
