Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant announcesd the release of their Kryptonite Double IPA. Brewed with more than twice the usual hops found in traditional IPAs, this beer is so craveable, it just may be the greatest weakness of a true craft beer lover. The new hop-centric, pop art packaging from the Delaware-based brewery sports a hero clutching hops radiating with flavor. The 9.4% ABV Double IPA features notes of citrus, tropical fruit and pine and then swoops in with an out-of-this-world bitterness. Featuring a well-rounded “Legion of Hops,” including Columbus, Centennial, Chinook, Amarillo, Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra varieties, this dangerously delicious beer would be a formidable opponent to even the most powerful superhero.

Kryptonite Double IPA cans will be unleashed on November 8, 2018 in 16-ounce cans at all Iron Hill Restaurant & Brewery locations throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and South Carolina, for $20.50 for a four-pack to go, perfect for settling in to watch your favorite superhero flick.

A favorite among the Iron Hill community, this super-charged American style double IPA emphasizes a powerful bitterness, in addition to a prominent hop flavor and aroma. Atypical from the standard craft beer, Double IPAs (also known as Imperial IPAs) are a strong, sweet, and extremely hoppy version of the traditional India Pale Ale (IPA). Usually starting at a 7.5% ABV, Double IPAs are full-bodied and intense, as the ale supports an especially high number of hops.

With a strong flavor profile, Kryptonite’s perceived sweetness balances a range of hearty dishes found at Iron Hill, in particular the Gold Medal Baby Back Ribs, which features a rich barbeque glaze made with Iron Hill’s Bedotter golden ale.  The perceived sweetness from the higher alcohol content and slightly sweeter tropical and citrus fruit hop flavors of the Kryptonite IPA latch on to the caramelization of the meat and meld subtly with the slightly sweet and fruity flavors in the glaze

IPAs as a craft beer category still remain strong, and hoppy innovations like Hazy and Juicy IPAs, as well as Fruited IPAs, have helped to grow the category in recent years,” says Mark Edelson, Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery Co-Founder and Director of Brewery Operations. “Despite all these innovative variations, American IPA still remains king of the IPAs.  For this reason, we are thrilled to can our first Double IPA with Kryptonite and look forward to seeing the emerging trends that will come from this category.”
