Italian Village Restaurants, Chicago’s original Italian destination, is celebrating 90 years, marking an iconic milestone for the Capitanini family. Founded by Alfredo Capitanini in 1927, the Italian immigrant set out to give locals a genuine experience, offering the best cuisine from his homeland. Keeping with true Italian tradition, the restaurant was passed down to the second and third generations. Fast-forward nearly a century, Italian Village is more than three restaurants; it is a part of Chicago’s history and a landmark in the local culinary scene.
To celebrate its 90th anniversary, Italian Village will host its 20th annual Ferrari Fest on September 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering the ultimate tribute to the “godfather” of Italian restaurants. Featuring authentic Italian fare—including dishes that have been on the menu since 1927—Italian wine from the Cellar in the Sky, cake cutting, guest speakers, entertainment, and over 60 Ferraris lining Monroe, the event is a must-visit for locals and visitors alike, with proceeds supporting Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Inspiration Cafe. The outdoor Ferrari Fest is free to the public with a suggested donation of $30 to benefit the charities.

Since its inception, Italian Village has made a major impact on Chicago, boosting the economy with the creation of over 18,000 jobs. The Capitanini family has also supported countless local charities, raising over $200,000 from Ferrari Fest alone. In addition its philanthropic endeavors, legends have been attracted to The Village over the years, from Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond to Luciano Pavarotti, George Clooney and Bon Jovi.
Known for more than authentic Italian cuisine, Italian Village houses an award-winning wine cellar with over 1,100 selections totaling over 20,000 bottles. With 90 years of memories and successes, there is much to celebrate at the third-generation family restaurant.
