Somerdale International, a leading importer of premium British cheeses into the U.S., is set to grow its presence here further with the launch of a bespoke range of cheeses, tailored for the important foodservice sector. The ‘Savile Row Cheese Co.’ (Savile Row) range of great tasting British cheeses has been specifically created to meet the growing demand of US restaurants for premium cheeses which combine depth of flavor with real provenance.

The ‘Savile Row’ range will focus on enabling restaurants to add value and differentiate themselves by including high quality British cheeses as part of their food offering. It will feature classic British cheeses such as Mature Farmhouse Cheddars and Blue Stilton as well as specially blended cheeses including Cheddar with Mustard Seed & Ale and Cheddar with Horseradish & Parsley.  The range will also include two non-GMO certified cheeses: a 12 month Mature Cheddar and a Double Gloucester with Chive & Onion.  So whether a restaurant wants to offer its customers an iconic British Cheeseboard ‘experience’ or include the distinctive taste of a blended cheese in a signature dish or as a unique topping on a burger then the ‘Savile Row Cheese Co.’ range can provide the answer.

Somerdale’s launch of ‘Savile Row’ is a key part of the company’s new five-year strategic program to develop sales of British cheese within the US foodservice sector.  The launch will be complemented by the establishing of a dedicated foodservice sales team based out of new offices in Santa Monica, California.  The team will be focused on the establishing of direct customer relationships with leading higher-end restaurant, hotel and multi-unit Quick Service Restaurant chains and also, over time, a network of ‘Savile Row’ specialist foodservice suppliers. While in addition, Somerdale will invest significantly in the delivery of in-market support to help educate and inform chefs and restauranteurs on how best to add-value through the use of the British cheeses featured in the ‘Savile Row’ range.

Commenting on the launch Somerdale International Director, Alan Jenkins says: “London’s Savile Row is a street famous for its many high-end tailors’ shops and we felt that it very much reflected many of the attributes we wanted our new foodservice cheese range to be associated with—namely it is: quintessentially British, of premium quality, bespoke in nature and characterised by great taste.

“Our research indicates that British cheeses are loved by many American chefs and restauranteurs but they find it difficult to source them.  As such, we wanted to be the first British cheese supplier to create, in the launch of the ‘Savile Row Cheese Co.’ range, a dedicated foodservice offering which is tailored specifically to meet the needs of the sector. Through combining a range of consistently high quality, great tasting cheeses with an easy to access supply channel we believe that British cheeses will increasingly appear on menus across the States.”
