The James Beard Foundation unveiled the finalists for its 2017 awards on Wednesday, narrowing the list of chefs and restaurants from eight to five per category. It also revealed the nominees for the Media Awards, which were once called the Book, Broadcast & Journalism awards.

The winners of the Media awards will be announced April 25 at an exclusive event at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City. The winners of the remaining awards will earn their medals at the James Beard Awards Gala at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on May 1.
