In preparation for this year’s Oscars, Gen Longoria, who oversees the beverage programs at Tre Rivali and The Outsider as lead bartender for the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel, offers an inspired cocktail.

Inspired by “Hidden Figures,” the untold story of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big. This cocktail utilizes Appleton Estate Jamaican, fitting in that Appleton Estates has appointed the first woman (ever), Joy Spense, as their Master Blender. It is a riff on a classic mai tai. Bright, citrusy, rummy (is rummy a word?). It is now.

  • 1.5 oz appleton estate jamaican rum

  • .75 oz lime juice
  • .75 oz Orgeat
  • 1 dash angostura bitters
