On March 7, Majorelle will open at The Lowell Hotel, celebrating both the opening and the birthday of Jacques Majorelle, for whom the restaurant is named. Charles Masson, known from his days at La Grenouille and his love of flowers, has been the impresario behind the restaurant. Along with hotel owners and the General Manager, Heiko Kuenstle, Masson has worked with architect Mark Pinney and designer Michael S. Smith to bring this vision to realization. He also orchestrated and coordinated the kitchen: one of a select few in New York with its own braisiere dedicated solely to preparing fine broths, sauces and soups, not to mention an oven reserved only for soufflés.

Menu sampler:

Délice au Foie Gras et Pomme Fondante (Foie Gras with Warm Apple Délice)

Poulet Rôti au Thym, Mousseline aux Pommes De Terre (Chicken roasted with thyme, potato mousseline)

Tagine aux Petits Légumes, Couscous et Arômes du Midi (Baby Vegetables, Tarragon, Turmeric, and Laurel)

Kebab de Crevettes Grillées au Romarin et Riz Safrané (Grilled Shrimp on Rosemary Skewers with Saffron Rice)

Guests will enter Majorelle through Jacques, a welcoming bar with leather paneled walls, an antique mirrored ceiling, and a marble bar. An intimate alcove fitted with a coco mauve pressed velvet banquet provides the perfect setting for a private party or quick lunch. On the menu will be expertly crafted cocktails and Mediterranean and Moroccan finger food with drinks and light fare offered throughout the day.

Majorelle will feature a beautiful garden, to be enjoyed in all seasons complete with lush plantings, fountains, and a fireplace. The new restaurant and its garden will also connect to The Club Room. This lounge will have a curated collection of art books, its own fireplace, and a dedicated bar. The handcrafted crown moldings, French Oak parquet flooring, and hand-painted paneling give it the air of a private club and refuge from the bustle of the city. Only open to the public after 4 p.m., it will provide a private space for guests during the day before turning into a lounge until midnight.

What else is happening at The Lowell?

Valentine’s Day

The Pembroke Room’s Valentine’s Day Tea runs February 1—28featuring Dammann Fréres’ Nuit a Versailles, a Sencha green tea adorned with orange blossom and pink corn-flower petals, combining flavors of Bergamot essential oil, kiwi, yellow peach, orange blossom, and violet blossom. For those with a sweet tooth, tuxedo chocolate covered strawberries will be plentiful. (Along with classic tea fare—petit fours, tea sandwiches, macarons, and scones with artisan jams.)

Chinese New Year

To celebrate the Lunar Chinese New Year on January 29, The Lowell will feature two special drinks: a Lapsang Souchong tea and a Beijing Bellini. The tea’s pungent smoky flavor is best when accompanied by a savory dish and the Bellini will feature Royal Tea with Lychees and Prosecco as well as a mocktail version. These will be available from January 27—31, 2017.

Fashion Week

New York Spring Fashion Week 2017 is upon us (February 9—17) and The Lowell will be treating its VIP guests to special daily treats, including Valentine’s Day chocolates and rosé.
