New York City’s acclaimed db bistro moderne, Chef Daniel Boulud’s contemporary interpretation of a Parisian bistro, will celebrate its twelfth anniversary with a complete renovation including a dining room re-designed by Jeffrey Beers and a handsome cocktail bar, along with a newly-crafted menu in collaboration with recently appointed executive chef, Jim Burke. The restaurant will close Sunday, August 11, and reopen in mid-September.

Discussing plans for his landmark restaurant, Chef Boulud says: “db bistro has been evolving over the years and on this anniversary, we are looking forward to introduce the new menu, blending our inspiration from French traditional bistro dishes, with the vibrant, seasonal-market offerings of New York.  Our menu will be punctuated as well by spice, seasoning, and flavor of the ethnic influences of this city.”

Joining the team is executive chef Jim Burke, originally from Philadelphia, who worked at award-winning restaurant Vetri, Angelina, his own property JAMES, and most recently at Caffè Storico in the New York Historical Society of Manhattan. Burke was a Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef of 2008, three-time James Beard Award ‘Best Chef Mid-Atlantic’ Semi-Finalist, and Bocuse d’Or USA 2010 Finalist.

“Jim has always been passionate about French and Italian cuisine, and it’s that European sensibility, coupled with his American roots, which makes him the right partner in the kitchen of db bistro,” says Chef Boulud.

Jeffrey Beers International (JBI) designed the original db bistro moderne in 2001 and now in 2013, JBI recreates a Parisian bistro that feels quintessentially New York. The result is a tailored update enhancing the convivial atmosphere the patrons of db bistro moderne have already grown to love. JBI designed an interior that has understated elegance adapting classic French bistro materials—walnut, glass, and antiqued mirrors—to bring a casual comfort to the restaurant's stylish New York audience. The JBI design energizes the space with elements such as the addition of a charming new bar to the front room, an intimate middle room with soft grey leather upholstered booths, and details such as mirrors etched with archival maps of Lyon, Daniel's hometown in France, and Manhattan.

The original db bistro moderne opened to the public in June 2001, and has been a Zagat top-rated bistro for more than a decade. The restaurant is a premier pre- and post-theater dining destination, midtown lunch hot spot, and perhaps most notably: home of the famed ‘db Burger,’ oft-credited with sparking the gourmet burger revolution. Fans of the famed burger need not worry, the signature sirloin burger, stuffed with foie gras and red wine-braised short ribs, topped with shaved black truffle, will remain on the menu which will include new classics for diners to enjoy.
