It's Jumbo Bairdi Crab season at Joe's Crab Shack. Starting today, the restaurant is dishing up this sweet, succulent crab on its menu until every last crab is sold.

Caught in the icy waters off the coast of Alaska, Jumbo Bairdi (pronounced bear-dye) Crab is now available at Joe's Crab Shack locations nationwide, by the pound, on its seasonal crab boil menu.

Joe's Crab Shack supports the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's strict quota system that ensures the Jumbo Bairdi Crab population remains strong each year for sustainable fishing. This year, due to optimal weather and water conditions, the oceans were abundant with ample supply.

"Jumbo Bairdi Crab is a rare catch, so we're lucky to be featuring it on our menus this spring," says Barry Lofton, executive chef, Joe's Crab Shack. "The meat is sweeter and the legs are larger than our classic Queen and Snow Crabs. Anyone who hasn't tried Jumbo Bairdi Crab before should come in soon, because we don't know when we might get our hands on it again."

To kick off and celebrate crab season, the Jumbo Bairdi Crab is offered as part of a new menu item, the Shack Boil. Guests choose their preferred crab (either Jumbo Bairdi, Snow, Queen, King, or Dungeness) or shrimp, and a seasoning (Old Bay or Spicy Beer Boil). The in-season seafood is served by the pound alongside fresh corn, smoked sausage, potatoes, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and macaroni salad.
