Neighborhood Retail Group recently announced Sushi Gakyu will open at 1420 New York Ave, NW, Washington, D.C.m in December 2016. The latest creation from Executive Chef Yoshihisa “Yoshi” Ota, Sushi Gakyu will provide patrons an upscale dining experience serving traditional and modern-style sushi, sashimi, and Japanese fish menus.

Followers of Chef Yoshi know him from his successful Bethesda, Maryland, restaurant, Yuzu Japanese Dining. Neighborhood Retail group secured the new location for Sushi Gakyu and is working with Chef Yoshi on the current buildout in conjunction with Stoneking von Storch Architects and Green Touch Builders. The space will seat around 67 guests with an additional 24 seats outside as well as offer an Edomae Ginza-style chef’s table.

“We are really excited to work with Chef Yoshi to bring his luxury sushi concept restaurant to DC,” says Bethany Scanlon, managing principal and co-founder of Neighborhood Retail Group. “He is legendary in the Japanese culinary scene and this space will truly reflect an authentic dining experience.”

Chef Yoshi has practiced the art of sushi making in the United States and Japan for more than 30 years and is known for starting his culinary career at the prestigious ANA Hotel restaurant in Tokyo. Additional accolades include guest Itamae (i.e. skilled chef) at New York's famed Sushi Den, a founder of Kushi Izakaya and Sushi in Washington, D.C., and head Sushi Chef and Sake Sommelier at Sushiko in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
