What happens in Vegas will stay in Vegas after Celebrity Chef Dana Herbert creates a monstrous 20,000+ pound wedding cake this October in Las Vegas. Chef Herbert announced April 29 that he will be breaking the current record for the world’s largest wedding cake during the 2013 International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) October 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Many will recognize chef Dana as the winner of TLC’s hit television series Cake Boss: Next Great Baker, Season 1 and from his appearances on television and around the country at food festivals, wedding shows, and the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour. From the looks of it, Herbert shows no signs of slowing down.

To celebrate the history making event, Herbert will be selling slices of the record cake to attendees of the IBIE and online. One-hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to fund breast cancer research and will be presented to Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Southern Nevada Affiliate. A portion of corporate sponsorship will also go to Susan G. Komen.

When asked about the attempt to break the record, Herbert says: “Life is all about family, friendship, and a lot of love. All those things mixed up and baked together to make a lifetime of memories. This record in Vegas is about taking everything you have and creating an experience that will touch the lives of many for a lifetime. Is it a mega challenge, of course, but that's what makes it so special.”

Pulling off the mammoth cake will take a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers. Chef Dana has recruited the best of the best including cast mates from  Season 1 of TLC’s Cake Boss: Next Great Baker, Jay Qualls, Greggy Soriano, Kendra Jordan, and Johanna Lyons as well as Carmelo Oquendo, Jasmine Frank, and Heather Macia from Season 2 and Melissa Payne from Season 3.  Also on this star-studded team are Robert Self and Nicole Wilson from TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off and WEtv’s Wedding Cake Wars; from TLC’s Fabulous Cakes, Lace McKee; from Food Network’s Halloween Wars and Sugar Dome, Gonzuela Bastarache; and professional bakers Juniati Kolingba, Dominicke Hayman, Stephanie Drye, DeAndrea Williams, Sebastian Todd, Latisha Mays and Netesha Herbert. Students from the culinary school of the Art Institute of Las Vegas will also be on board to help construct the cake.
