Naya Sunset & Naya Lounge, two side-by-side exotic destinations on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake, take guests on a journey of unexpected sights and tastes with its spacecraft-designed interior and modern-Indian cuisine by Chef Imram Ali Mookhi.

Naya, “new” in Hindi, is designed to offer patrons a highly personal take on Indian cuisine in a setting that seems lifted from a set designer’s fantasy. The food: modern, California-influenced, Indian-inspired. The setting: utterly unique.

Naya Lounge is a dark, moody, gothic/Moroccan scene replete with high ceilings, carved wooden arches, a marble bar, and comfortable seating.

Naya Sunset, the dining room, is an ethereal and romantic haven with white lace billowing from the ceiling, white leather banquettes, and blood red accents. Together they reflect the perceived duality of life, the dark and the light. Naya is exotic, sexy, transporting — new.

Continuing with “new” inspirations, nearly every dish on Chef Imran’s dining menu is steeped in tradition but delivered with an updated twist.

For snacks, small plates include Spiced Peanuts, roasted peanuts, chili paste and a twist of lemon juice; a variety of Samosas including spinach & tofu, kidney beans & cheese, potato & peas, feta cheese, arugula & walnut; salads such as the Goat Cheese Medallion Salad with fried-curried goat cheese, mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, shallots, carrots, minty-orange jus and toasted papadums and Sasha’s Garlic Prawns, carom-cumin marinated jumbo shrimp, tandoori roasted and served with a pomegranate chutney. Small plates range from $5-14.

Entrees feature Butter Chicken Masala, made with marinated chicken, buttery tomato sauce and Naya rice; Everest Lamb, a lamb ossobuco with rich onion-tomato demi-glaze and Naya rice; Lemon Chili Scallops with chili-lemongrass scented coconut milk, pomegranate chutney and black rice; and the unexpectedly named Filet Mignon Breakfast Curry is sauced with wheat flour curry and paired with garlic mashed potatoes. Entrees range from $15-$26.

Side dishes include a range of vegetables such as Fenugreek and Green Pea Curry, Sesame Stir Fried Cauliflower, Yellow Lentil Stew, Seasoned Okra, Garbanzo Bean Stew, Black Rice, Saffron Rice and a range of house special Naan breads.

Desserts include Cardomom-Infused Rice Pudding with Ice Cream, Rose Donut with Chilled Pineapple and Chocomosa – a dark chocolate filled Samosa. Vegetable side dishes are $10 and accompaniments and breads are $3-$5. Desserts range from $5-$7.

In Naya Lounge – the journey continues. A separate space showcasing the dining room’s alter ego, Naya Lounge is the dark knight, a dramatic and daring space for drinks and casual dining. A forthcoming Live DJ schedule is to be announced.

Cocktails setting the tone include Spa in Goa, a mix of Don Julio Blanco, lime juice, nectar, jalapeño, cucumber, Buddha’s Bed featuring Stoli Vanil, Liquor 43, pineapple juice, Simla Cure, Naya’s signature Bloody Mary recipe with spice-infused vodka and The Dancing Lotus with Belvedere, Cointreau, lychee juice and pomegranate juice.

Cocktails begin at $12.

Naya Lounge’s Bar Bites include Spiced Peanuts, Tempura & Garbanzo Battered Onion Rings with Spiced Ketchup, Assorted Samosas, Silky Lamb Kabob, Naya Burger Sliders with carmelized onions, sambal chili, grilled tomatoes, spiced ketchup and paired with tamarind-mint potato skins, as well as a variety of house special; Naan Pizzas.

In addition to the dining room and lounge Naya boasts a 1200-square foot Private Dining Room accommodating up to 50, and a 800-square foot covered back patio Garden decked out with multiple fireplaces, lounge seating, lush landscaping, a fountain and tile floors.

Naya’s Garden will host cigar, Cognac, and single malt nights, schedule to be announced. The Garden accommodates 40 guests.
