El Naranjo, Austin’s traditional Mexican restaurant helmed by 2022 James Beard Award-winning Chef Iliana de la Vega and her partner Ernesto Torrealba, announce August additions to their seasonal summer menu. El Naranjo will also host Guest Chef Christian Bravo, on August 31, 2023, for a five course menu highlighting the flavors of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The new dishes added to the August menu celebrate the final days of summer. Blending spice and citrus with savory notes, the new additions feature ingredients such as serrano chilies, cilantro, fresh mango, and more. Part of El Naranjo and Chef de la Vega’s mission is to showcase in-season produce as much as possible, demonstrated in their changing menu and attention to quality.

“The August menu specials are inspired by the magic and the spices of summer. We also have Chef Bravo joining me for a very special evening to bring our guests the unique flavors of the Yucatan,” says Chef de la Vega.

By the end of August, El Naranjo will offer a specialty dish, Chile en Nogada, available through September. The dish features one poblano chile filled with a beef and pork picadillo, tomato, onion, garlic, plantain, apple, peach, raisins, and pine nuts. The chile is served slightly cold and topped with a walnut sauce.
