New York City Expo Promotes US–Peru Trade


To honor the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Peru-U.S. Trade Promotion Agreement, PromPeru, the Peruvian Tourism and Export Board, will host Expo Peru from Nov. 17-19 in New York City.

Magali Silva Velarde-Alvarez, the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism will attend meetings with U.S. buyers and importers and schedule media appointments to discuss the positive economic forecast for Peruvian textile and food exports to the U.S.

According to the World Economic Forum, Peru is one of the countries with the world’s most business-friendly environments and ranks among the top 20 in the macroeconomic environment pillar. In recent years, the Peruvian economy has outperformed most emerging markets, growing around 6 percent with inflation below 3 percent.

Expo Peruis an initiative to reinforce Peru’s international reputation as an attractive country for investment opportunities, positioning the country as a supplier of quality products and services in both the textile and agronomic sector. On Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, Peruvian delegates and companies will ​​visit buyers in the tri state area at their facilities and distribution channels to discuss the impact of trade agreements on manufacturing and supply operations.

On Nov. 19, the Metropolitan Pavilion will host a day of activities including a textile industry breakfast forum moderated by Tom Julian, director of strategic business development of the Doneger Group, with over 30 brands, designers, and sourcing companies attending from the apparel industry, mainly in cotton, alpaca, and knit.

A lunchtime forum with keynote presenter Tom Gellert of Atalanta Corporation, one of the largest importers of Peruvian ingredients for food service and retail, will focus on the quality of ingredients such as asparagus, artichokes, peppers, and avocados, and the growth potential for these products in the U.S. market.

Throughout the day, Peruvian textile and companies from the food sector will exhibit at the Metropolitan Pavilion to showcase their product diversity.

An evening cocktail reception, Peru Mucho Gusto, will kick off the Expo’s main attraction, Peru Moda, an exclusive fashion show featuring Peruvian fashion designers Kuna and Sergio Davilawho both stunned at NYC Fashion Week this year with their men’s collections featuring designs with alpaca and pima cotton.
