To celebrate its 25th anniversary in a big way, Charleston’s beloved Magnolias is excited to announce the release of a third cookbook, Uptown Down South Cuisine.

Inspired by Magnolias’ original menu, this celebratory book features the restaurant’s signature dishes, as well as new recipes from current Executive Chef Don Drake and other successful chefs such as Jeremy Ashby (Azur and Brasabana), Jeff Delmastro (Mac’s Speed Shop), and John Milner (Milner’s and Milner Brothers) that have spent time in Magnolias’ kitchen. 

“We are thrilled to share the secrets to our beloved dishes as well as a selection of recipes crafted in Magnolias’ kitchen by the exceptional chefs that have come through during their careers,” says Magnolias Owner TJ Parsell. “It’s Magnolias’ impressive team that has made the restaurant become the special place it has evolved to in the past 25 years.”

Celebrating the heart of Southern fare, Uptown Down South Cuisine features over 240 recipes in 12 chapter, complemented by photography by John D. Smoak III, for memorable dishes including updated versions of favorites and contemporary twists on South Carolina classics. Uptown Down South Cuisine is a testament to the restaurant’s 25-year history as a forerunner in Charleston’s culinary scene.

The book features specific techniques for Stocks and Sauces, good ole’ Southern specialties like Buttermilk Biscuits and Fried Chicken Gravy, and interesting appetizers like Boiled Peanut Hummus and Deviled Crab Backs.
