On Thursday, March 1, Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) restaurants will launch Feed Yourself, Feed Your Neighbor, a month-long campaign to raise funds for City Harvest.
The world’s first food rescue organization, City Harvest, is dedicated to feeding hungry men, women, and children in New York City. Throughout the month of March, when guests dine at any USHG restaurant (with the exception of Shake Shack), they will have an opportunity to make a donation to City Harvest, which USHG will match up to $25,000.
USHG has partnered with City Harvest since the opening of its first restaurant, Union Square Cafe, in 1985. To date, USHG restaurants have donated thousands of pounds of leftover food to support City Harvest’s hunger relief efforts throughout New York City, helping to feed hungry individuals and families in their community.
Every dollar donated helps City Harvest provide nearly four pounds of food for hungry New Yorkers in all five boroughs.
“The restaurants of Union Square Hospitality Group are proud to partner with City Harvest to feed hungry New Yorkers,” says USHG founder and CEO, Danny Meyer. “Please join us and help our neighbors in need.”
“The programs where City Harvest makes our deliveries are now facing record demand for food,” says Jilly Stephens, executive director. “Union Square Hospitality Group is offering diners the chance to make a real difference by providing the support we need to get good, nutritious food that would otherwise be wasted into the hands of hungry men, women, and children.”
Participating restaurants include Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke, The Modern, Cafe 2, and Terrace 5 at the Museum of American Art, Maialino, Untitled at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and North End Grill.
This year, City Harvest will honor Union Square Hospitality Group at An Evening of Practical Magic, the organization’s annual gala event that pays tribute to the efforts of individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to fighting hunger. An Evening of Practical Magic will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street on April 24, 2012.
