Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods America with Andrew Zimmern will feature the Alabama Gulf Coast in its July 22 show. Zimmern visited Alabama earlier this year and extensively explored the Vietnamese fishing community of Bayou La Batre.

In the aptly titled segment, “Andrew’s Top 5 for Third Coast,” the celebrity gastronome highlighted his Alabama Gulf Seafood lunch with a local Vietnamese family as his number one Gulf Coast moment, even topping Zimmern’s visit to the duck farm of celebrity chef John Besh.

“The Asian community has become such a vital and unique part of the Gulf Coast fishing community,” says of David (Tùng) Ha Pham, program coordinator of BPSOS-Bayou La Batre. Pham also served as a translator between the Vietnamese family and Zimmern during the Bizarre Foods visit. “The mixture of cultures in the community has really created something special, and I was ecstatic to be able to share the passion we have for Alabama Gulf Seafood with Andrew.”

Viewers can catch the episode Monday, July 22, on The Travel Channel, airing at 9/8 p.m. (CST). Other parts of Alabama cuisine also will be featured in upcoming Bizarre Foods episodes, including fare from Hot and Hot Fish Club and Jim N Nicks BBQ (airing in the July 29 episode).
