Taste of Belgium announced a new menu item, The Puig Waffle, to celebrate the Cincinnati Reds 150th season and the arrival of Right Fielder, Yasiel Puig. The Puig Waffle is Taste of Belgium’s take on a Cuban sandwich. This classic sandwich gets “Belganized” as we use Pork Belly, Havarti cheese, mustard, ham and house made pickles, broiled in the oven, on one of our signature waffles to represent the spirits of both Puig and Taste of Belgium.

This sweet and savory combination is the perfect pre (or post) Reds game meal! Yasiel Puig, aka The Wild Horse, is a Cuban-born Professional Baseball player, and comes to the Cincinnati Reds from the LA Dodgers. Taste of Belgium will donate $1 of each Puig waffle sold to Yasiel Puig’s Wild Horse Children’s Foundation, which aims to inspire children and families in underserved communities by promoting healthier and better-quality lives through education, sports, community development, and health and wellness programs.

“We are extremely excited to be partnering with the Cincinnati Reds again this year and with Yasiel Puig and his incredible foundation,” says Taste of Belgium owner, Jean-Francois Flechet. “When I saw Puig lick a bat I immediately thought ‘how fun would it be to have him licking a waffle.’ He has such an electric personality and I immediately knew we needed to work with him. When my team came to me with the idea of the Cuban waffle sandwich, it was a no brainer. We had no idea if Yasiel would go for this crazy idea for a partnership, but he did. Next thing you know I was on a plane to spring training to meet him and have him try his new, namesake addition to our menu, and he loved it. No only do we get to have fun creating this new item, we are contributing to his charity, The Wild Horse Children’s Foundation.”

Taste of Belgium is a restaurant group born and raised in Cincinnati. It all started at the back of a produce store in Findlay Market and has grown, one waffle at a time, to four full service restaurants (OTR, Clifton/UC, Rookwood and The Banks) as well as two market stands (Findlay Market and North Market-Columbus).
