Small Box Energy Apoints Dan Clarke New CEO

Tracy Markie, chairman and founder of Small Box Energy formally announced Dan Clarke’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dan is a seasoned CEO with over 30 years of executive leadership experience. He comes to Small Box Energy with a distinguished record for growing small to medium sized companies into market leaders. This is Dan’s tenth time holding a position of this magnitude.

“After watching Tracy and Small Box Energy for several years, I was excited to become part of this team,” says Clarke. “This is one of the most balanced small companies I have ever seen. We have the technology, the market, the need and a really innovative, proven solution at a price the customer can afford.”

Dan started his career at Intel as an engineer. He rapidly became one of the leading directors and found a passion for entrepreneurship as he moved from Intel to one of their startup ventures. From there, he quickly found his niche for growing high-tech small businesses into successful multi-million dollar enterprises. Small Box Energy has become a leading energy management provider for restaurants and convenience stores. Their solution, chameleon monitors and controls critical refrigeration, lighting and HVAC equipment reducing overall energy consumption by as much as 30 percent. Additional features include food safety through temperature monitoring and early equipmentd iagnostics. Alarms for equipment failure are sent via text message and email; while real-time and historical data is accessible via a standard web browser or the free iOS or Android mobile apps.

Besides energy savings, customers have reported as much as a 20% decrease in maintenance tickets and associated costs after implementing chameleon. Used in over 35 brands nationwide, including one of the largest Quick Serve Restaurants (QSRs) in the world, its popularity continues to grow as restaurant and convenience store owners realize as much as 66 percent of their energy bill is generated from these critical systems.

Dan has successfully grown over a dozen companies through talent acquisition and clearly implementing a fast-paced growth strategy. As a strong leader, he recognizes customer relationships are the key to building good business and truly becoming market leaders, especially for high-tech products, due to the complexity and resistance to change. Mr. Clarke continues to be active on several privately held technology-based company boards; and among his various achievements, he has played an essential role in raising capital needed to execute his visions.

Tracy Markie comments, “I wanted to bring in an experienced CEO that could quickly understand the volatility of energy use and demand, technology, and the precise needs of the ‘small box’ retail space, while also being able to swiftly formulate the necessary resources needed to expedite a successful growth strategy. Dan is clearly the best candidate for the job.”

Clarke started his tenure in the fall and quickly assembled the leadership, customer success, development, and deployment teams needed, as well as the sales and marketing engine.

Clarke is very excited for the future of Small Box Energy and the opportunity they have to reduce costs, increase efficiency and leverage data and processes within the restaurant, convenience store and small retailer market space.
