Bellevue’s Chef Battle on June 20 raised $9,000 for Hopelink’s End Summer Hunger Program. The battle challenged chefs to make fine-dining meals from food bank ingredients.

Four chefs participated in the battle: Simon Zatryka from Koral Bar & Kitchen, Jeff Slemaker from Paddy Coyne’s Irish Pub, JJ Ullakko from Pearl Bar & Dining, and Justin Johnson from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

Chef Simon Zatyrka won the competition. Zatyrka made a Carrot "Pappardelle", using carrots, tomatoes, fennel, asparagus, red bell peppers, thyme, basil, dill, parsley, smoked clams, purple potatoes, lemons, canola oil, salt, and pepper.

End Summer Hunger is Hopelink’s campaign to help provide low-income families with food for children who receive free or reduced-fee breakfasts and lunches during the school year. The money raised is equivalent to over 4,000 meals. Bellevue sponsored the event so all proceeds went to the campaign.
