After a highly successful run since July, The Purple Pig in Chicago is discontinuing breakfast service and breakfast catering, effective immediately. The restaurant now opens at 11:30 a.m., seven days a week, serving lunch and dinner. The no-reservations restaurant closes nightly at 11 p.m.

Chef Jimmy Bannos, Jr. says, “We had a lot of fun evolving our breakfast restaurant concept featured this past summer at The Purple Pig, and we were absolutely thrilled with both the turnout and the positive feedback from our guests. Ultimately, we were simply too busy; with this change, we’re now able to focus our attention on some new projects for the next calendar year.”

Among the new concepts, Bannos Jr. announced he’ll be launching Piggie Smalls Gyro Shop at the Wells Street Market next spring. Other details will be announced in 2018.

Fourth-generation restaurateur and James Beard Foundation “Rising Star Chef” 2014 Jimmy Bannos Jr. shares his love for Mediterranean food with the Windy City at The Purple Pig, a rustic sharable-plate restaurant, conveniently located on Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile. The Purple Pig offers “cheese, swine, and wine,” alongside other dishes that showcase the flavors of Italy, Greece, and Spain. With creative menus that are constantly changing, the restaurant highlights Bannos’s food in fun, inventive ways with a warm and welcoming spirit—along with a beverage program that includes over 415 wines, local craft beers on tap, and an ever-changing cocktail list, curated by Sommelier and Head Bartender Alan Beasey.

The Purple Pig has received numerous accolades since opening in 2009; the restaurant was named one of 2010’s “10 Best New Restaurants in America” by Bon Appétit magazine and has been a Bib Gourmand recipient from the Michelin Guide Chicago since 2011.
