Whether they were pouring or tasting, attending a seminar or looking to buy, the 5th Annual New York Wine Expo was the place to celebrate the extraordinary world of wine. The Expo, held March 2-4, 2012, featured 130 wineries representing 12 countries. Nearly 4,000 consumers and 1,500 trade representatives sipped and swirled their way through the weekend.

“Attendance continues to grow each year as we remain dedicated to producing a show that offers one of the most diverse groups of wineries from the best wine regions all at one location,” says Ed Hurley, show director, ResourcePlus. “Exhibitors benefitted once again from our overlap with the International Restaurant & Food Service Show, which attracts hundreds of potential buyers from the New York metro area and throughout the Eastern United States.”

There was a remarkable array of Old and New World wines for tasting again this year. Large pavilions from the wines of Greece, Portugal, and South Africa offered attendees the opportunity to taste the abundant varietals native to these regions, while traditional regions such as Italy and France were also well represented.

Attendees also got to experience wines made closer to home with a variety of wines from the Western United States and the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York.

For those that attended the expanded seminar offerings this year, the Wine Expo offered a closer look at wines from France, Portugal, Greece and Italy.

Seminars were led by well-known industry professionals, including:

  • Gloria Maroti Frazee, Wine Spectator School
  • Alain Junguenet, ‘Mr. Châteauneuf-du-Pape’ and founder of Alain Junguenet Selection
  • Mark Oldman, author of Oldman’s Brave New World of Wine
  • Steve Olson, Wine and spirits consultant for Bon Appetit magazine and founder of aka/wine geek
  • John Cressman “The Wine Guy”, founder of the World Wide Wine

The 6thAnnual New York Wine Expo is scheduled to take place March 1-3, 2013, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.

“Based on the positive feedback we got from attendees and the exhibitors, they’re already looking forward to producing next year’s Expo,” Hurley says.
