On the eve of Super Bowl XLVI, Meritage Executive Chef Josh Thomsen will join a bevy of the nation’s top chefs and NFL all-stars at the 2012 Taste of the NFL event in Indianapolis.

“Each year, Taste of the NFL brings together top chefs, players, and NFL legends to champion the fight against hunger,” Thomsen says. ”I’m honored to participate in this mission and look forward to adding some East Bay flavor to the 2012 culinary event.”

Chef Thomsen will appear alongside Oakland Raider legend Pete Banaszak to represent the team and showcase his award-winning “Commitment to Excellent” Short Ribs recipe, paired with a Louis Martini Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2012 event marks his second year participating in Taste of the NFL.

The annual event raises money in support of food banks throughout the nation, with this year’s proceeds to benefit Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis.

The popular strolling food and wine tour, known as The Party with a Purpose, matches chefs with a current or alumni NFL player from each NFL team to offer food samples and wine pairings.

Highlights of the 2012 Party with a Purpose include entertainment by country superstar Sara Evans and special guest appearances by the newly crowned Miss America, National Honorary Chairperson Tony Dungy, Food Network’s Chopped host Ted Allen, and TLC’s Cake Boss stars Mauro Castano and Joey Faugno.
