Massachusetts Landmark The Castle Restaurant Goes Up for Sale

The Castle Restaurant, located on Main Street (Rt. 9) in Leicester, Massachusetts, has announced that the lakeside property will be offered for sale on the general real estate market effective immediately. The Central Massachusetts institution, owned and operated by the Nicas family since 1949, grew from a dairy bar to an award-winning restaurant, with a nationally recognized five-star dining room unlike any other in the region.

WWII veteran, Stanley Nicas and his wife Helen opened the Castle Restaurant for business in May 1949 and it has remained a family-run business ever since, with children James and Evangeline currently at the helm. The decision to hand over the business was not an easy one as owner James explains, “It is with considerable emotion that we, as a family, contemplate the next step in life's journey. As the restaurant expanded, so too our families grew and changed and we’re ready to retire to spend more time with them. As such, we have made the difficult decision to move aside to allow other capable hands to carry on.”

The Castle will not be closing, and it is not going out of business. The Nicas family are committed to maintaining the quality dining experience the Castle offers but are open to speaking with anyone who may be interested in taking on the legacy and making it their own. The restaurant will operate on its usual business hours and gift certificates will continue to be honored. The Castle will also keep customers updated on the news as any potential sale or change in management occurs.

Owner Evangeline adds, “To our customers, many of whom we consider friends and extended family, we humbly say ‘thank you.’ We appreciate your support, kinship and kindness. After a lifetime of being in the hospitality industry, we shall miss it. It has been our pleasure to serve you.”

Sale of the Castle Restaurant is being managed by David Burwick at NAI Glickman Kovago & Jacobs. All inquiries can be directed to David Burwick or James Nicas or submitted via the real estate listing on the NAI Glickman Kovago & Jacobs website.
