In April, Main Event asked people across the country to nominate families and individuals who went above and beyond for their communities over the past year, and they did not disappoint.
After receiving over 700 submissions, from 16 states, Main Event has selected 12 winners as part of their Every Reason To Celebrate Campaign, including Kena Terry and Kevin Sutton from Orlando.
At just 12 years old, Kena helped a neighbor on a daily basis for months, assisting in the creation and donating of 14,000 face shields and 6,000 face mask ear savers. These items went to healthcare workers, teachers and nursing homes. Not only did she support those on the front lines, but she also boxed lunches for the homeless throughout the pandemic.
“Everyone was having a really hard time [over the past year], and when I got the chance to do it, the motivation was there,” says Kena.
On a voluntary basis, Kevin teaches men’s parental skills to soon-to-be dads, where he spends hours providing both mental health and educational support to make men better fathers. He also mentors young teens on how to be engaged within their respective communities to help better the greater Orlando area.
“Knowing how my dad raised me as a kid, it rubbed off on me,” says Kevin. “You always have to give back.”
“We have an incredible community of Main Event guests, and have heard such inspirational and selfless stories from all across the country. Our 12 winners were selected because they are the definition of an ‘Above and Beyonder,’ putting their family, friends, communities and strangers above themselves over the past year,” says Sarah Beddoe, Chief Brand Officer, Main Event Entertainment. “Seeing their reactions when we surprised them over the past couple of weeks was incredible. It’s been a hard year for everyone, so we’re thrilled to be able to give them back a year of fun, celebration and family time.”
