David O’Day, Director of Wine for Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, is thrilled to announce that he acquired the Coup De Foudre 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Lightning Bolt Blend during the 16th annual “Premiere Napa Valley,” the Napa Valley Vintners’ wine futures auction to the trade.

“Coup De Foudre” is a French expression which describes the moment when lightning strikes. Five cases of the 2010 Lightning Bolt Blend were created exclusively for Premiere Napa Valley and this one-of-a-kind wine will only be available at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak Houses.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House is a contemporary steak house. Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House is known for its prime steak. As Director of Wine, O’Day has carefully selected a staggering array of sought-after wines, creating a stand-out choice for power players with discerning taste who want the best wines to complement their prime steaks.

“The Coup De Foudre 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Lightning Bolt Blend I just acquired at Premiere Napa Valley is stunning and cannot be found anywhere else. It is an incredible addition to our impressive wine list,” says David O’Day, Director of Wine for Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group.

We are thrilled that we can bring this one-of-a-kind wine to our guests, who are so sophisticated and knowledgeable.  They challenge us every day to present something new and I think they’ll be really excited with this offering.  We are thrilled to bring them the best of the best.”

O’Day was among hundreds of bidders who competed for 200 precious lots during a rousing live auction that was held at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena and lasted for three hours.

The Coup De Foudre was Lot #93 and five cases of The Lightning Bolt Blend were crafted by winemaker Kent Jarman for the auction.  He says that as they were tasting their 2010 Cabs one barrel trumped all others, so it was held aside for his Premiere blend.

He describes the wine as a one-of-a-kind, electrifying Cabernet Sauvignon elevated by 2% Petit Verdot and grounded with 4% Cabernet Franc.  Jarman says that intense blueberry and ripe dark fruit set the tone for this rich, complex wine.  A balanced, aromatic matrix shows nuances of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and ripe cherries.

The 2010 Lightning Bolt Blend, created exclusively for the auction, will be released to Del Frisco’s in November.

“We were very fortunate to have the winning bid on the Coup De Foudre.  How appropriate that its name describes a lightning strike,” O’Day says. “It is a great winery that consistently makes world-class wines.”
