This February, follow your nose to the Chicago French Market, located at 131 North Clinton St., for the opening of Klay Oven Kitchen.

The 20-year-old family-owned restaurant, Klay Oven, in River North and Oak Park, will open this third outpost offering freshly ground and roasted Indian spices, brewed teas, and made-to-order bowls and wraps.

Klay Oven Kitchen will become Chicago French Market’s 28th vendor and will emphasize the aromas and accents of India.

The 170-square-foot space will house more than 25 varieties of fresh Indian spices from cumin, fennel, turmeric, and cardamom to black salt, star anise, and mustard seeds. Indian spices are said to not only give Indian food unique flavors and color to its preparation, but offer medicinal values as well that help heal, soothe, and refresh.

The raw spices will be roasted and ground on-premise and priced from $2-$6.

Whether it’s for lunch or an early dinner, Klay Oven Kitchen will offer the flavors of India in your choice of a bowl or wrap. Guests can fill their creation with organic vegetables, mild to spicy sauces, chutneys, and hung, a flavored Indian yogurt. Four curries will be offered daily, including two vegetarian and two meat options.

Every morning, Klay Oven Kitchen will brew teas using Indian flavors such as masala, ginger, mint, and black pepper. A variety of Indian themed pastries will also be available for the morning rush.

Klay Oven Kitchen will be open at the beginning of February with hours Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The space will have seating for up to 12 guests for dine-in.

Beginning Saturday, March 3, and every Saturday thereafter, Chef Hiran Patel will hold morning cooking classes at Klay Oven Kitchen to teach guests about Indian spices and how to incorporate them while cooking at home.
