Chef Mark Hipkiss of John Howie Steak has collaborated with bar manager David Chou to create an once-in-a-lifetime spirited dining experience. It is called a Glenmorangie Scotch Dinner and will feature two distinguished guest hosts: David Blackmore, the master brand manager for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg scotch, and Bill Lumsden, master distiller for Glenmorangie.
The five-course dinner will be held on Thursday, March 29, and features Glenmorangie 10-year, 18-year, Nector D'or, Lasanta, and Quinta Ruban. Each guest will get to leave with a special Glenmorangie scotch glass.
A native of Scotland, David Blackmore is a professional whisky tutor with a background at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in Edinburgh and London. Blackmore previously led the Society's prestigious "Tasting Panel” in cask selections, an art in itself.
As Glenmorangie Master Brand Ambassador, Blackmore heads the Glenmorangie USA educational program in Single Malt Scotch Whisky appreciation. Through tastings and events across the U.S., David educates on the nuances and intricacies of the Scotch category in general, with unparalleled enthusiasm.
This will be Blackmore's first trip to Seattle in more than three years.
Lumsden is regarded by the malt whisky industry as the pioneer of wood management, producing whiskies that have truly changed the single malt market. With a doctorate degree in biochemistry, he joined the company in 1995 as Glenmorangie Distillery Manager.
Since then he has taken up the mantle of wood finishing and his ongoing experimentation has involved exotic casks such as Fino Sherry, Claret, Côte de Nuits, and Sauternes, as well as the company’s core range of wood finishes. He has also further developed the company’s famous slow growth, air-seasoned Ozark Mountain oak barrels, which he routinely uses in the Glenmorangie Ten Years Old and Artisan cask expressions.
In 2007 Lumsden was awarded Global Ambassador of the Year and Scottish Distiller of the Year. He has also received the Malt Advocate magazine Industry Leader of the Year Award in both 2001 and 2006 in recognition of his position as one of the most knowledgeable and forward-thinking distillers in the world.
